New Avatar

So many of y'all do it, so here goes. I'm ditching my avatar for a real, recent pic of me because: a) I'm not working as a nurse anymore (though I do still wear scrubs...whew! I wouldn't want to have to change the name of my blog too!), and b) I think it's nice to have a visual of others on the internet.

I have to give Travis some props over at his blog with his latest post about what I can only describe as book "trailers," video clips manufactured to get your attention and hopefully boost sales of books. My comment on this idea was as follows:

As a reader, not an author, this idea appeals to me NOT ONE IOTA. I don't want some video clip to taint the story I am about to read. I don't want to be stuck with someone else's images of the characters, settings, voices, etc. It's the same reason I rarely ever see a movie based on a book without reading the book first. Then, and only then, I am free to be entertained and amused at how someone else's version of what I read was SO different than what I came up with myself.I want to approach a new read as a clean slate, a newborn babe, not with any preconceived notions. That, my friend, takes all the fun out of it for me.

His post got me thinking, what do people think I look like? My faithful readers must have some preconceived notion of what I look like.

So tell me, how do I match up to your mental images?

When I first read this post - I looked at the greeny black shrimp like creature on the top of your Blog!

OMG - I've been talking with Amphibian woman for all these months !

I then looked down a bit further and saw a beautiful smiley face with fun filled eyes - just how I imagined you to be and not at all shrimp like !! x

As I've only just started to read your blog I come with no pre-conceived notions so you look just like you should! That's a great piccie. Red looks good on your family!

The curly hair surprised me a bit, I had you more with long straight blonde hair.

And thanks for the props. I pretty much agree with everything you said.

I rather like not knowing what people look like. I don't mind knowing, but the medium of the internet is interestingly about what people say via their commentary and posts rather than appearance and actions. I rather like that.

The picture is gorgeous. You look like a million there. Red is a good color for you!

I love the picture!! I think I pictured Lulu, only with a larger vocabulary!

The curly hair threw me off a little bit also!

I cant wait to read another happy entry!

I do like the picture. I'm honestly not sure what I pictured you as before the pic, I guess just a generic mom wearing scrubs. Although I do recall I imagined the scrubs were pink, for some reason.

Anyway, it's good to put a face with a name. My regards to Jeepman and the family as well. Take care!

Of course I was picturing a tall Amazon woman with a huge mohawk and big muscles and a spear and a surgical mask and a huge nose ring and large feet and leather trench coat with bazookas and an apron and a whip and chains...

BOY what a disappointment!!! ;o)

Seriously - you look beautiful!

Ah! Just popped over from your comment and here I missed the big unveiling! Lovely smile. :)

Book trailers are ... hmmm... I do wonder if they're worth the time / energy / money to make. I guess if you have a really good one (David Rosen of "I Just Want My Pants Back" comes to mind), it can't hurt. His is just a montage of related photos set to music and him reading the opening.

PS: Thanks for looking for the book at Target! It won't be there until June 19, so I'm sorry you missed it! I know, it's all very confusing and random.

Well...since we've already met...LOL!

I thought you would be older- AND older looking (not in a bad way). I was a little shocked at how young & adorable you are! Your blog is so- well- grown up! :)
